FAČUK (work in progress)
'Fačuk' is an original TETRABOT project: this short animation movie is a folk horror fairy tale inspired by the artwork of Mijo Kovačić, the most famous representative of so-called black stream of the Hlebine school of naïve art.
Animation of the painting 'Nevjesta dravskih ribara' (1982) by Mijo Kovačić, created for the Mijo Kovačić Gallery in Koprivnica Town Museum
The movie revolves around young Nadica. She is pregnant with fačuk (a bastard child) in a village where being a fatherless child is a mortal sin. Carpenter Jožina tries to save Nadica and her unborn fačuk.
Maida Srabović, the author of the concept and screenplay for ‘Fačuk’, grew up in Podravina, the cradle of Croatian naïve art. The idea for the story came from her personal experience: her family story, mixed with the elements of Podravina folklore. The vision of the movie came to Maida from her environment and the images of naïve art she was surrounded with.
A storyboard sketch
‘Fačuk’ is the first animated movie that is completely inspired by the visuals of Croatian naïve art, including the concept, story and characters. A contemporary “naïve artist”, painter Stipan Tadić, will design the original movie characters and backgrounds, thus complementing the adaptation of Mijo Kovačić’s art classics with his modern approach to naïve art.

'Fačuk' is in the pre-production phase. The screenplay is completed, the basic film cast and crew are set and the beginning of production is expected by the end of 2020. That is why the movie is in the process of budgeting at the moment: looking for sponsorships and applying to various film funds, grants and calls for financing. Vanja Andrijević from Bonobostudio offered to take over distribution once the movie is completed.
TETRABOT is open for co-production with other studios and producers of a similar profile (a small studio working on creative and art animation) but with at least one successful production behind them – a project similar to ‘Fačuk’ (a short art animation movie for adults).
